Shaikh Abdul Lateef

Dr. Lateef completed his undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral training at the School of Medicine, Zhejiang University. During his undergraduate studies (2007–2013), He received a solid foundation in medical sciences, including core courses such as anatomy and pathology. At the same time, He regularly attended surgical observations at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, which provided him first direct exposure to clinical practice.

For his master’s degree (2013–2016), He specialized in general surgery under the supervision of Academician Shusen Zheng. At the Department of General Surgery/Hepatobiliary Surgery, First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, He underwent systematic clinical training. He participated in ward rounds more than three times per week, assisted in routine surgical procedures such as appendectomy and cholecystectomy, and took responsibility for postoperative patient management.

April 2021 – April 2022

During his rotation as a training doctor, he gained comprehensive clinical experience in both the Department of Surgery and the Emergency Department.

In the surgical department, he assisted with preoperative preparation, including instrument checks and patient verification, supported intraoperative procedures by handling instruments and monitoring vital signs, and participated in postoperative care by documenting recovery progress and contributing to rehabilitation planning.

In the emergency department, he managed acute cases such as cardiovascular events and traumatic injuries. His responsibilities included rapid history taking, physical examination, preliminary diagnosis, and active involvement in resuscitation procedures. The workload was demanding and often required irregular hours, frequent overtime, and night shifts to address urgent cases.

This intensive training enhanced his ability to work under pressure, strengthened his clinical judgment, and provided valuable hands-on experience that laid a solid foundation for his future professional development.

Training Doctor (Master’s and Doctoral Period)

September 2013 – March 2025

During his master’s and doctoral studies at Zhejiang University School of Medicine, he received systematic training in the Department of General Surgery, with a primary focus on hepatobiliary surgery.

In clinical practice, he participated extensively in the diagnosis and management of hepatobiliary diseases, including liver tumors, cholelithiasis, cholangitis, and pancreatitis. He developed proficiency in comprehensive history taking, physical examination, and interpretation of imaging studies such as ultrasound, CT, and MRI. Surgically, he assisted in numerous hepatobiliary operations, including hepatectomy, cholecystectomy, and common bile duct exploration, and gained a solid understanding of surgical indications, contraindications, and operative techniques.

In parallel with his clinical training, he engaged actively in scientific research on the pathogenesis, treatment strategies, and prognostic assessment of hepatobiliary diseases. He contributed to multiple research projects and published several academic papers, which enhanced his research capability and academic development. Through close collaboration with mentors and colleagues, he broadened his knowledge base and strengthened his professional skills.

This decade-long experience not only provided him with rich clinical exposure but also cultivated rigorous scientific thinking and a strong theoretical foundation in medicine, laying a solid groundwork for his future career as a hepatobiliary surgeon and clinician-scientist.
